Blue Water Owners - Matthew & Shana Lee

Chef Matthew Lee trained at the Sheraton and Hyatt Kingsgate Hotels in Central New Zealand and then worked for five years throughout Australia honing his South Pacific cuisine. After that, he departed for a three year sabbatical in the kitchens of England and Ireland under Chefs John Moran and Seamus O'Connell in the historic Imperial Hotel.

Matthew then moved to The Hamptons, New York where he was Chef de Cuisine at The Wild Goose (Best New Restaurant 2002). Upon Arriving in California, Matthew was Chef de Cuisine of Village Café on Santana Row where a newfound passion for California Cuisine was realized. After a stint as opening Chef de Cuisine for Poggio of Sausalito, Matthew accepted the position of Executive Chef at Annabelle's Bar and Bistro San Francisco.

New Zealand is fortunate to have this experienced, well travelled Chef back on our shores where he and wife Shana are now the owners of the Blue Water Bar and Bistro, Opua, Bay of Islands.
